Dear Swiftkey,

One of the reasons going back to an iPhone will be extremely difficult for me is the keyboard; Apple has not innovated squat on that front. While the iOS keyboard is tres chic and utilitarian, it also isn’t very functional and doesn’t take advantage of the the multitouch display.

With Swiftkey, I appreciate how I can easily go from typing to flowing (is that what you call it?), or long pressing a character so I don’t need to keep flipping back and forth between alpha and numeric modes. This is where my frustration comes; sometimes, after I type in a series numbers, then hit the spacebar, I want the keyboard to auto-switch back to alphabet mode.

I’ve kept some back-of-the-envelope stats on my own edge-case, and of the last 20 times I’ve keyed in some numbers, 17 times I wished it switched back to alphabet mode when I hit the spacebar. Now I appreciate that not everyone has the same needs as me, or frankly, cares about being economical with their keystrokes, but since you guys care so much about how many keystrokes you’ve saved me, and provide heat maps and such, this could be one more thing to help in your quest.

You could even make this a selectable feature in the Advanced section of settings:

Swiftkey

Leave it unchecked by default on the update, and let those who choose to do so, click that badboy and live the sweet-sweet life. Danke schön.

As of today, I’ve lived longer without you :(

Eighteen years have passed
I hope I have made you proud
Miss you so much, mom

Dear Pinterest,

I want this one for myself… I have a Raptors blog that is pretty popular, and one of the services we provide is Pinning game pictures to a a board with other pictures from the same game. Not a lot of people follow us on the service, and frankly, I’m not sure how popular it is for our readers, but I like having all those pictures available for future reference, but I digress…

The following workflow will be familiar to any Pinhead (not sure what a user of the Pinterest is called, but I made myself laugh with this one):

Step 1 – Find a picture to pin
Pinterest - Step 1

Step 2 – Select the picture to pin
Pinterest - Step 2

Step 3 – Add detail and pin to a board
Pinterest - Step 3

Step 2 kills me when only one picture shows up as a thumbnail; why even force that interaction? Can’t you program some magic into the logic to behave more like:

If pictures on page = 1
Then bypass image selection screen
And jump directly to the “Pin It” modal

There, that’s it! Save everyone a click for this specific use case, and probably decrease the load on your servers.

ps – I haven’t bothered to check if there is an open ticket, or something in the roadmap that speaks to this, just something I’d like to see for my own selfish reasons.
